Red Comb Vintage has been closed for the summer so that I could treasure hunt, wrangle weeds and make happy memories with the kids but it's reopened now. I just added these vintage cuties to my Etsy Shop and I have a feeling it won't be long until they are matched to their forever homes. Red Comb Vintage : It's all about The Bag

I've been carving out time to get back to hunting for vintage goodies these days (for the shop and for my home) and I finally had some nice treasures to share. These lovely bags made their way into my Etsy Shop today. Check 'em out. Oh, and while you're there take a look at this. I just about fell over when I found it. So, so sweet.

snippets of my saturday

Between all the pickling and preserving I've been doing lately I am surprised I haven't worn a rut right through the floor in the kitchen between the sink and the stove. I looked up from the load of dishes I was washing at 9 o'clock on Friday night and it dawned on me that I had spent the past three days in my kitchen. So, I fired up the oven, baked a batch of dark chocolate butterscotch brownies, did another load of dishes and vowed before I went to bed that I would not spend the next day in the kitchen.

Upon waking, Greg declared he was going to take the kids out for the day, the whole day. So, I quickly tidied up my "studio" (which is a very fancy word I use for my dining room) and spent the entire day in there instead with brief ventures into the kitchen for milk and brownies. It was a very productive and very relaxing day for which I feel immensely grateful for.  And, I have A Wee Bunny to show for it! She's not entirely ready for her grand debut yet but she will be very soon.

For the record, I am not headless. Although sometimes I feel like I am losing my mind. Maybe he hears me say that too often and this is his artistic interpretation of that?  ;)

it was going to the landfill...

But now it's not! I found 'Jeremiah's dresser' at my local charity shop, outside, waiting for the truck to come and take it to the dump. There was a heated conversation there about why someone would leave such a piece of junk as if it were worthy of donation. Jeremiah's dresser didn't have any drawers and was in pretty rough condition. When I asked if I could buy it they just looked at me with a pitiful look and said, "Oh, honey, go ahead and just take it.". Well alrighty then!

I was in desperate need of a 'shipping station' for Red Comb Vintage and this dresser couldn't be more perfect! I gave it a fresh coat of paint in Martha's Feldspar (semi-gloss) which is a decent name for this paint but I am truly surprised she didn't call it jadeite because it perfectly resembles vintage jadeite-ware. Anyhow, I am now resisting the urge to paint everything in my house this color, I love it that much. Before I painted it the dresser was flat, light sky blue which you can see I am covering in the second picture.

Without the drawers this dresser suits my needs. I have my tissue paper for wrapping, flattened boxes, paper cutter, scale, envelopes and that heart tray (which my dad made) holds my scissors, stamps, packing tape, sharpies and customs forms. Everything I need to pack an order is right there. Before, I just had stuff stashed everywhere and I would have to run all over to find things. The top will remain clear (haha) as a work spot for packing. But I found this amazing antique quilt and needlepoint pillow this weekend and they seem to be happy there for now.

This was such a satisfying project! Much like the big cabinet our friend was taking to the dump that we re-purposed into a shoe station. I still feel thankful for having that big cabinet every day. I have a feeling this dresser will be loved just as much.

 

Kitties Behaving Badly

Would you look at all the naughty in this photo? You really have to click on it and make it bigger to get the full effect. I heard such a ruckus in the dining room last night and walked in to find this! First, Trixie and Kimba are on the table. Naughty. Then, Trixie is taking her siesta in my hand knits to hand wash bin. Really Naughty. What Kimba is up to goes without saying. He had the whole chandelier swinging.  Super Duper Naughty. And this was after all the kids went to bed and I thought I could sit down and just relax...

time to clean out the coop!

{a picture a day} weekend getaway

I'm dusting off and packing up my Amelia Earhart. Oh, check out this ad I just found! Looks like the same case! I have a pretty decent collection of vintage luggage but this is my most treasured piece given to me by my mother-in-law a few years ago. I don't travel often but when I do I prefer old pieces like this. It just feels good to carry something beautiful and even when it's in use, or just laying around, it's pleasing to the eye. My knitting is all packed up in the Traveljoy.

I'm heading out for a ladies only weekend getaway with a few of my closest friends. I have been looking forward to this for months now! To say that I am excited is a gross understatement. I'll be back on Monday!

{a picture a day} stack of woolen scarves

I scored a pretty lovely pile of woolen plaid scarves at the Goodwill this morning. They are making me mighty happy right now and the possibilities of what to do with them seem endless. My first thought as I was picking them up in the store was to stitch them together into one large throw leaving the ends fringed as they are. But I don't know? What do you think?

Remember this mosaic I put together a while ago? Dahlia just reminded me about it (thanks Dahlia!). Well, I have a certain obsession with Airstreams. I happen to also have an 'Airstream Sensor'. If there is an old Airstream in a field somewhere and I am driving by it won't go unnoticed. I can feel them behind sheds, tucked away behind barns, or in the case above behind a pile of junk cars. This summer Greg and I decided to stop and inquire about this particular Airstream, we are in no position to buy one but it never hurts to ask because you just never know. It turns out the guy who runs the junk yard/repair shop was just storing it for someone. I asked him if we could take some pictures of it and he said, "Sure, I don't mind. But I don't know what all the fuss is about with those. 20 people must stop every week to ask me if that metal can is for sale. I wish I had one to sell them!" I do too, Mister. I do too.
