Jorn started guitar lessons this week. Finally! He got his guitar last November. He insisted on teaching himself the first few months and then when he did ask for lessons we had to get on a waiting list. I can't tell you how much my heart swells to hear him practicing in his room while I tidy up the kitchen each evening. I just adore this guy.
My Grandmother has the voice of an angel, my mother is a pianist, one of my brothers is a guitar player and music therapist, my father used to perform in musicals (not professionally), my cousin is a rock star and it was said I was born humming tunes from The Pirates of Panzance because that was the play my mother was accompanying while she was pregnant with me. Music was such a huge part of my childhood growing up and I learned to play a lot of instruments myself all of which I set down in favor of horses, dirt and barn duties when I was given the choice. I still sing (badly) all day long though.
Jorn has great taste in music and he's a natural with instruments. I think he'll follow right along with the rest of the family on this one but who knows? Right now he's listening to The Shins. What tune is humming in your ears these days? We'd love to take a listen!
Sweet! Does he have an amp to go with that Ibanez? ;)
Tigerlily & Lyric's favorite music these days: anything by Queen. We've also been listening to a lot of First Aid Kit around here--beautiful harmonies!!

Lately Wilco and, since your post, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I really can't get enough of it. My son is learning piano here at home and I feel such joy to hear him play past his alloted practice time!

Victoria, I was going to mention First Aid Kit's cover of the Tiger Mountain Peasant song! Another of my favorites lately is The Duhks' Annabel: http://new.music.yahoo.com/duhks/tracks/annabel--28680789
He looks fantastic with that guitar. May it all bring you much joy. :)

oh, i know how you feel. we have that cd pretty much on an endless loop. is there any better way to start the day triumphantly than by listening to '40 days'? simonne's favorite on that album is 'jade' and she belts it out! too cute! how great that your son is starting piano :)

Taken By Trees; both the "Sweet Child of Mine" song and "To Lose Someone".
My son took guitar lessons and wrote some of his own songs, I LOVED to hear him play. He is now all grown up and married and busy working and doesn't play as much any more. But, once in a while he will play a song for his mama :-), brings tears to my eyes when he does.

Love the picture of Jorn! As the mother of a talented guitar player (bass) myself, I appreciate your love and admiration and how beautifully the picture captures him. I think it would make an AWESOME album cover for his first CD! (I'm dating myself, I know they're no longer albums but CDs...LOL)

I've been on major Lady Gaga kick. I finally broke down and bought The Fame (yes, I know I'm an album behind) when it went on sale. The entire album is awesome and the girl really can sing. All the tunes are not dance beats and the lyrics are actually intelligent. I'll admit I was pleasantly surprised since I've only heard Poker Face, Bad Romance and Just Dance.
And to mix it up, last night I listened to an old CD that is a compilation of Gregorian chants. It was very soothing while making dinner. I've got a thing for religious chanting - Gregorian and Tibetan being my favorites.

Since I've got a 11 month old most of the music is kid oriented. We found a great kids artist called Charlie Hope. She's really folksy sounding. Otherwise it's Creedance Clearwater Revival or other great 70's bands.

music is a gift, that's wonderful he's enjoying it.

Colorblind by Counting Crows is lately in my head. Glad to hear junior there is interested in music, it`s a great passion to have when you're young, and it can develop into something really worth putting time into. Best regards, Leslie.
