As we wake up from that winter slumber so many dreams start to emerge as well. Sometimes I just look out into our field and the mirage of an Airstream appears. I can't think of better accommodations for guests or a way to travel with a big family than in a giant silver pod.
Dreams are so important. So much of what we have, our home, our cars, our chickens, this life we have started out as a seemingly unattainable dream, something far off in the distance very out of our reach either financially or just because of where we were at in our lives. 'Unrealistic', 'pipe dream', 'silly', 'impractical' these are all words that people use to deflate their dreams. We don't use any of these words in our house.
I believe that the thoughts we have about something can truly manifest themselves into reality. I also believe there is a huge difference between wanting something and dreaming about something. 'Wanting' something leaves you empty, 'wanting' takes the place of action, when you want something that is all you are doing you are wanting it. Dreams are the foundation of plans, you know this because when you really start to dream about something you can feel that powerful feeling inside of you that supports your desire. In contrast when you want something you only feel that insatiable feeling. You know? That is how I feel. As a family we limit the things we want and are aware that the things we 'want' are often impulsive and fleeting, if we remove the image of that thing usually the want goes right away with it. Dreams leave a residue on you that you just can't shake no matter what.
So we dream about the big things, like our family working side by side and on our own terms. About horses in the field and more alpacas. About growing popcorn and pole beans. About Greg writing more books. About an Airstream in the field so we always have room for whoever wants to come by since we've gone and filled up all of the bedrooms in our house with babies! And those things we dream about uplift us, excite us and inspire us to do things to make those dreams reality.
Sometimes it's really hard to share your dreams but I'd love to hear about what dreams are emerging in you and what you are doing to make your dreams happen if you care to share.
oooxxx and have a lovely weekend,
Spidey
Our dream is to have a small piece of land. Just enough to have a garden which supplies all our veggies and some chickens. If I'm brave enough a goat too. I dream of a happy family working together to making their life simple but enjoyable and full of love.
My dreams used to be more self focused. But now that Sofia is here, my dreams have become family oriented. I dream of becoming a great knitter and sewer. I want to make as much of our life from scratch as possible. I want to teach Sofia and any other babies to come all of the skills they needs to be self sufficient.
I dream of family hiking and camping trips. Of Saturdays spent at zoo and going to the park. Of apple, lemon and fig trees in the back yard.
These are just some of things I dream about that make me happy. One at a time they all become attainable. As a team (my husband and I) we can make just about anything happen. Especially since we are on the same path. I dream of making our lives as pure, simple and healthy as possible.
Well I've rambled enough. Thanks for the post and asking about our dreams!

One other thing I just remembered, I dream of having Thanksgiving dinner come completely from my own backyard. I want to raise the turkey and grow all the veggies, even make the butter for the pie crusts. In that way I am truly truly thankful for all the food that goes into that meal.

beautiful!
we have BIG dreams!
We dream of having many more children if we are so blessed. We dream of having a home someday where we can settle for good, watch our babies grow, watch our babies bring their babies home to visit, we dream of having space to roam, to explore, to grow.
We dream of finding that perfect place for my husband to start his practice, where our family can really put down our roots.
Until then, we are living in our current dream - it's a beauty.

With lambing and kidding just around the corner, we've been dreaming about more pasture!
The other dream that I keep coming back to is having a little cabin up in the woods on the ridge that runs along our property. The house down by the pastures and garden is great, but in the summer it sure would be nice to walk up the ridge into the trees and walk through the door of a simple, cozy little place with no radio, no phones, no Internet, no electricity, and just sit by the light of some oil lamps and chat, or knit, or read, or listen to the frogs and bugs while we curl up with the dogs...

I tell you, we built 1.5 storey sheep barn this winter, and afterward I turned to my husband and said, "Oh, that cabin on the ridge will be MUCH easier than this!"
We have a miniature breed, so we usually breed them later in the season, so that they will lamb when it's warmer, which means we still have almost a month to wait. *sigh* I'm very envious of the breeders we bought from who are out in Oregon, since their lambing has already started. They just posted a little video on their blog of the basic stuff they do with a new lamb (taking temperature, etc.)--it's at priscilla.saltmarshranch.com, if you or anyone else is interested.

i am such a dreamer. my most recent dream (and reoccurring for a number of years now) is to run a family friendly farmette and bed and breakfast. depending on the day this dream grows to be a full blown art/craft retreat too. these thoughts all began while at bennington surrounded by beautiful landscapes and inspiring people.
and there will be blueberries and flowers galore of course!
