Jorn and Simonne love the movie My Neighbor Totoro along with pretty much every other film Miyazaki has made. After they watch Totoro they will play for hours, hours in all sorts of imaginary scenarios. So, the other night I stumbled upon this pattern on Ravelry and cast on immediately. In the morning I had two, sweet little Chibi Totoros to gift Jorn and Simonne. They love them!
For the eyes I just traced around a plastic stitch marker along the outside for the whites and the inside for the black part of the eyes. I had to do some fiddly trimming with tiny scissors but it worked out. Then I just sewed them on with regular thread. In retrospect I wish I had put some weight in their bums so they would stand on there own. In any case, they were a huge hit and a completely unexpected surprise! I guess I should start knitting a few Chu Totoros next! Raveled here!
