{Well, I've been sewing again}
I found myself in need of a bag. I know that if my husband is reading this he has fallen on the floor laughing. So, let me rephrase that. I needed a big bag that has lots of pockets where my tiny stuff doesn't get sucked into a vortex of nonexistence. I guess these are called *ahem* diaper bags but even with three kids I have gotten this far without having one of those. But, that is basically what I needed.
So I made one.
It is far from any sort of respectable sewing project. The inside is untidy but incredibly functional. There are six pockets that run all around the interior of the bag. On one side they are deep, about the length of the bag, to hold diapers, a wipe case and a travel size magna-doodle. On the other side the pockets are high up but shallow to hold lip gloss, pens, my wallet and keys. The center is big and open because I always have lots of books, magazines and of course knitting projects to haul. Usually with big tote style bags you have to dig through one giant pocket to find all your little stuff that inevitably falls to the bottom. This bag remedies that!
For the exterior I used antique linen that I was lucky enough to find this summer at an estate sale. It's really hard to tell but if you click on the picture above you'll see that there is a embroidery pattern to work on it. I toyed with the idea of actually embroidering it but decided to just leave it alone. At first glance the bag looks like plain linen but it has this really beautiful and subtle detail on it that I just adore, like a little secret. Vintage sheets line the interior. Cotton quilt batting gives the bag form.
