Rhinebeck Part 1

Now, my neighbor thought I was completely nuts for doing this to our car and my darling husband was a tad "embarrassed" by the whole thing but I just LOVE Rhinebeck so it had to be done. And what a perfect weekend it was! My oh my. The N.Y.S Sheep and Wool Festival was just wonderful this year. The weather was outstanding, the only downside to it being 70 degrees and sunny was that it wasn't cool enough to foster the lovely parade of hand knits that normally occurs. Oh well. There was much to see and do besides. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Nova and her beautiful family in person. And Nova, as nice as it was to meet you, it was an absolute delight to meet THE Little Sir. If you think it is impossible that Nova's son is any cuter in person than he is in pictures well you are terribly wrong. He is even cuter!

This was my third year attending Rhinebeck and I have to say that it was my most enjoyable yet. I thought having the family in tow might hamper my *ahem* purchasing ability but it did not. The first year/time you attend a fiber fest of this magnitude it's impossible not to be overwhelmed and a little frenzied in your way. The second year, for me, was great/a little less overwhelming because I knew what to expect and was a bit more prepared. This third year I actually got to relax and enjoy the whole thing and was honestly surprised and delighted by how much my family did as well.
My son wants to spin! And I mean spin! He mimicked all the motions perfectly and just couldn't take his eyes off of people who were around spinning. As a knitter mother (and I have a feeling a soon to be spinning mother) this just warmed my heart as much as you guys could expect it to. He doesn't have any yarn in his hands in this picture, he was trying to show the lady he "knew" what to do because he wanted her to allow him to "really" try the wheel.

Does that look like the face of an almost five year old? Oh my. I said, "Well I guess I'll have to learn how to spin so I can teach you." He said, "No mom. I'll learn so I can spin the wool for you to knit." I LOVE him. What a moment.
It was a long day for all of us. Up and out of the house by 7 and we didn't leave until they rang the closing bell on Saturday. In fact we were all so tired we decided to let Simonne drive home :-)

By the way, the writing on my car actually helped a car full of Knitters from New Jersey who had been circling in the roundabout in Kingston for a few minutes. They spotted our car and followed us all the way to the festival! They thanked us over and over again once we reached the fair!

And Yes. I did buy yarn. Not a lot but just what I wanted. So hang in there. Haul photos to come soon...

We had so much fun meeting you and your fam, Abi!! And how cool is it that your son want to spin?!! I am a little intimidated by the whole spinning thing, but I figure, just dive in, it will be fun. We can all learn together!!

I'm glad you had fun!
I have a CR-V too, and now all I want to do is go paint yarn all over it!

Holding your son while he learned to treadle was one of the highlights of my day. What a sweet boy, your story was even better.

I totally love the car! My husband would die if I did that--but it looks so fun. And I am so jealous about getting to go to Rhinebeck! I will have to plan better next year and make my annual trek to NYC closer so I can take a slight detour over the weekend.

Looks like you had a wonderful time. Can't wait to see what your son spins up!
I am able to see your feed fine, through bloglines, but i use this feed URL :http://spiderwomanknits.typepad.com/swk/rss.xml, not feedburner.
I have found that if i try to add a feed using the feed:// protocol, rather than http://, Bloglines is unable to deal. I should try it in the beta. Don't know if that helps at all, but there you have it.
Good to see you are all doing well.

OH, I'm sad to have not met you and your brood =(
What a cutie! And those CHEEKS on Sabine--it's fitting she should pilot the way home with that awesome aviator cap.
I'm feeling the wheel lust too...badly.
